Description: Versatile, pure and playful, silky-smooth with endless variety – must love color! 4 styles for every complexion

Review: I managed to score these 3 blushes for cheap on the local EDM-LJ community. No sifters and those jars don’t seem to be the original ones, but that’s fine by me. Beats paying more and waiting for the samples to arrive from US. *Funny thing that EDM does not have samples for blushes, so we’re forced to get the minis, even if we only want to try the colours*

As you can see from the swatch, Apple is the darkest on me – I’ll have to be extremely light handed with it, lest I have a baboon’s ass on my cheeks. Nick Nack appears to be a light pink, a natural flush on my cheeks. Best Friends is great for a natural no-makeup look, being a little peachy on me. Apple & Best Friends have the tendency to turn orange if you buff too much.

Among the three shades, I prefer Nick Nack as it’s easy to use and match. No worries about going overboard as well. One thing to note is that EDM blushes do not break me out, so that’s a plus!

Rating: 4/5 (-1 for not being able to test samples)

Would I buy again: Yes, in other colours!!

Mineral blush craze period!

I don’t know what has gotten into me, but I’m loving mineral makeup blushers lately. I’m looking for 1/4tsp samples so I could test the colours, please let me know if you have the following colours!

Everyday Minerals
Apple

Apple is a stunning matte rosy pink shade, with a delightful autumn apple undertone, which applies beautifully for everyday elegance

All Smiles

Matte yet radiant, this rosy peach blush deepens to coral at the warmth of your skin. For a sassy touch, use as a lip color. Women of every skintone will be all smiles when they see the subtle boost to their natural glow

Best Friends

Give your cheeks a soft bloom of charming color with this silky-matte mauve blush sweetened with tones of delicate rose. Turn to Best Friends to add beauty and life to your complexion, and to your day!

Nick Nack

Sweet and innocent, Nick Nack is a neutral pink with a matte finish that lends a soft, youthful glow to cheeks. Perfect for creating a natural look, it can even be layered over darker shades to add dimension, making “everyday” extraordinary.

Snuggle

Snuggle is a radiant pink with a flattering peach undertone. It applies sheerly but can be layered on to give a cozy, luminescent glow that’s great on any skin tone

Walkee Talkee

A berry pink shade with a kiss of peach. It twinkles softly with fine flecks of silver, imparting a rosy sheen to light up your complexion. Compliments all colours of skin and makeup beautifully & looks gorgeous on cheeks, lips, and eyes.

DVR Saturday

A charming medium baby pink shade with an unexpected hint of silver sheen makes this the perfect blush for that upcoming occasion. Also use as a lip color, and this Saturday they won’t be able to keep their eyes off of you!

Comparison of mineral makeup I’ve tried so far

First brand I’ve tried: MAD Minerals

I used an old sample from my sis (colour is Olive Light) and surprisingly it was a perfect match for me! A 1/4 tsp sample jar (US$2.25) lasted me abt 3 weeks or so. I’ve since re-ordered, but not sure if the colour match is still the same as before (have not used it yet).

They offer sample kits for $8 onwards (I bought the 5 pc ‘your choice’ shades sampler set). Right now, they also have a 6 pc pro travel brush set with case, going at only $8.

Second brand I’ve tried: Everyday Minerals

I love this brand as the colour match is also pretty good (I use Olive Light as well) and I like the dewy look it gives me (using Original Glo formulation). Foundations come in 4 different formulations: O/Glo, Semi-Matte, Matte & Intensive. Everyday Minerals explain the difference between the 4 formulations:

Everyday Minerals knows that our complexions don’t always cooperate with us, therefore on those humid summer days you may want to give yourself a little edge during the heat. And sometimes during those cool spring mornings you want to radiate a glow that warms your spirit.

Original Glo gives your face that added touch of dewiness and long lasting coverage, and is ideal for normal to dry skin. Semi-Matte is a more subtle glow formulated for normal to combination skin. Matte, provides a silky smooth matte finish that is ideal for normal to oily skin. Intensive, ideal for all skin types, provides a silky near-matte finish and controls oil where needed without drying your skin. We suggest mixing and matching formulas so you can make all the right beauty choices to fit your personality and time of year.

For blushers, ‘All Smiles’ and ‘Waffle Cone’ are popular choices for daily, natural looks. I’ve also tried Soft Bronzer, but it’s kinda too light for my skintone to do anything. A new colour that has yet to be launched (‘New Car Smell’) is also quite nice.

Their brushes are also very soft, almost comparable to my Too Faced retractable kabuki (AUD$60+), and they are so cheap (US$10 only, even cheaper if you get them in the Personal Custom Kit -Full). I love the Long Handled Kabuki when my Too Faced kabuki is in the wash.

For first-timers, it is recommended to try the free sample kit (just pay US$5.95 for shipping) to test out your colours. Though they state that samples are good for 3-6 applications, I’ve found my sample lasting me more than 2 weeks! And I do use quite a fair bit to cover up my acne scars daily.

Currently, they have a promotion going on (their promotion changes every 2 weeks or so).

These will be available March 15th but you can get a preview of two fantastic colors today!

Third brand I’ve tried: Lumiere Cosmetics

My sis loves this brand, but I don’t. I ordered the sample starter kit (US$9) early this year when they offered free international shipping. I couldn’t find a perfect match among the colours I ordered (light medium golden in Flawless & Veena Velvet, and light medium warm in Cashmere & Luminesse. ) The sample kit also came with pearlfecting powder, True Radiance all over colour. Lumiere Cosmetics explains their formulations:

Flawless – Unlike other mineral foundations that are chalky and heavy feeling Flawless is finely milled, soft & moisturizing. Formulated with squalane to create a creamy textured foundation that will almost melt into the skin to rehydrate and rejuvenate dry, lifeless skin. Flawless is a mica free matte but not flat foundation with a touch of glow.
Veena Velvet – The addition of a cosmetic grade oat powder has been added to this unique foundation to create a soft, creamy like textured foundation that is perfect for sensitive skin. Will help heal and soothe the skin and keep your skin oil free all day long without drying your skin. Veena Velvet is a all matte, foundation that is not chalky and completely blendable powder.

Luminesse – Created by customer request! This is yet another soft, finely milled foundation mimicked after a nationally known brands that is just as its suggests…. Luminous! While it is still a matte foundation, this formula offers a luminous glow with a light medium to heavy coverage. If you like the finish of Bare Escentuals, Sheer Cover or Jane Iredale, you are going to LOVE our Luminesse!

Cashmere – Silky Soft almost creamy like texture that will be great on ANY skin type as the high content of pure silk powder will soak up extra oil for those with oily skin and help retain moisture for those with dry skin. This is truly a remarkable foundation that will keep you skin looking fresh all day! Our Cashmere pure silk based foundation offers a satin smooth matte but, not flat finish.

The only thing I like from this brand is the True Radiance all over colour. It brightens up my face and is perfect as a blusher! The pearlfecting powder acts as both a primer & a finishing powder, but I feel that it’s not finely milled enough.

Too Faced retractable kabuki brush

USD$28.50

Review: OMG OMG OMG! I love how this brush feels on my skin. It’s absolutely luxurious, and I cannot believe that it’s synthetic! I bought this in Sept but couldn’t bear to use it until now cos I’ve just ventured into MMU and I need a good kabuki brush to blend my makeup in. It, being retractable, also makes it easy to bring out for touch ups. It doesn’t run or shed when I wash it (I’ve only washed it once so far. Oops) which is definitely a good thing to me cos I hate brush bristles that are dyed and run when they’re washed.

I couldn’t stop brushing it on my face because it feels so soft like a flannel! Would definitely buy it again!!! For sure!

Playtime in the sandbox!

Another of my MMU orders have arrived – Lumiere. I like how they package their items – in a transparent square jar with a black round cap. It looks pretty classy. Upon first look, it seems like all 4 shades that I’ve chosen (well, ok, just 2 shades in 4 different formulas) are pretty dark. Will have to do a test-run before I confirm anything.  Still loving my Everyday Minerals! Light Olive is such a perfect match for me!

it’s playtime!!

yay! two of my *many* orders arrived today – whoopeekiddies and everyday minerals.

in whoopeekiddies, i have a burts bee lipbalm and a helichrysum hydrosol. costs me SGD13.50 including postage. pretty reasonable to me, and it only took a few days to arrive. i tried my goodies immediately after my shower, and gosh! the helichrysum stinks damn bad! like some expired chinese herbal soup smell. yucks. but hey, if it works, i’m willing to stick it out. and wow, the burts bee lipbalm is damn shiok! i love the minty feel and sweet mint smell.

in everyday minerals, it was the sample kit that i ordered. initial try out of colours is that they all look pretty ok on my skin. but i’m going to test them one by one to see which is the best.

more coming up! =)

more on mineral makeup

i actually bought a EVM sample off the forum, hoping that it would be a close match to my skintone, and could tide me over till my orders arrive (my MAD sample ran out). sadly, it’s a tad too dark, and too pinkish for me. i’m generally the 2nd lightest shade, and am pretty yellowish. the shade of the sample that i hv is Medium Beige. if anybody wants to try it out, i’m selling it at $2.20 including normal mail. email me, or leave me a comment k?

i ordered more MAD minerals samples earlier today – 5 pc ‘your choice’ sampler US$10.25 including shipping.

MAD Minerals

Last night, I remembered that my sis have dabbled in mineral makeup before. So I asked her if she has any leftovers, and she does!

I tried MAD Minerals in Olive Light, and it’s quite a close match to my skin tone. But I think I haven’t really gotten the hang of using minerals yet… I do half a face before doing the next (to see the difference). I only need 2 layers to cover up all my acne scars and my face looks almost next to flawless! My favourite Jane blush looks so much nicer on top of flawless skin, the true colour and shimmer comes through immediately. I never knew how nice my Jane blusher looks because my cheeks are always red with scars.

Oil-control wise, mineral makeup does help to control the oilies quite well. My nose looked dewy/oily after an hour after application, but there’s no oil at all! I guess that’s how one shld look like if they want a dewy look. At the end of the day (abt 12 hrs after application), my face sans nose still look matte! It only felt a little oily to touch, somewhat similar to how I would feel after moisturizer.

MAD Minerals

dabbling in mineral makeup (at last!)

ok, i blame it on the festive season. it makes me go generous and want to spend and spend, even though i’ve exceeded my budget for this month, and there’s still 2 weeks more before my next paycheck comes in. i try to justify my actions, and psycho myself that i need a new foundation to make my acne scars go away, and that i’m being reimbursed for certain payments that i’ve made over the past few days (so i haven’t really busted my budget yet).

anyway! i logged onto Everyday Minerals and got myself a sample kit & also a set of flocking sponges. Don’t know what they are, but read from Michelle that those are great for mineral foundation application, so into the shopping cart they went. I only paid US$5.95 shipping for all these below!

Golden Light – Light Olive – Beige Neutral (which is slightly darker than what is above)

Multi-tasking concealer

Soft bronzer (as cheek colour)

Flocked sponge (US$1 for 3)
